    measuring the bore

    Hi there

This may appear a bit of a daft question but I still can't quite work out how you measure the bore of a barrel.

When they say "this pistol is 20 bore", how do you work that out? Any guidance would be appreciated.

    thanks
    Nick

The "20" would refer to the number of solid lead balls, the size of the bore, it wiuld take to equal 1 pound in weight.

As indicated: there are tables that will convert this to a caliber measurement. A 20 bore would be about a .62 caliber, if memory serves me correctly.

Ah! So I still remember a few things: I just have trouble remembering what they ARE!

    Cheers,
