    Which pistol?

If you could only have one of the following, which would it be?
Don't enter cost into it,& I know it is spring-v- 1 pump pcp, just accuracy & shootability / funnability (yes, I did make up the last word!)

    HW40
    HW45
    Gamo Compact

    Cheers, Dave

This really is just a 2 horse race, HW40 or HW45, I have both but if i could only keep one if would have to be the HW40, Trigger and accuracy are outstanding and the HW45 does get a bit heavy after a while.

You will be looking at around £90 for a HW40 and £160 for a Standard HW45, £200 for a HW45 STL and about £240 for the HW45 Sliver Star (Drool)

I've always liked the Gamo myself - I find the HWs a bit too small for my hands and slightly less intuative on the cocking/release.

My advice would be to try them if at all possible before you buy!
    New: Hammerli AP20; BSA Meteor for daughter (and rats ); TX200 with a scope on top;
Baikal MP-651K for plinking; and a friend with an Original 75 he doesn't mind me using!

No doubt in my mind - Gamo Compact all the way.

Does everything the others do - but has the option of taking you onto the first rung of the competition ladder if you wish.
The other two are compromised by their grips and until you've tried a halfway decent grip - you'll never know what you're missing....

If I could have only one of those it would be the 45 every time. It's so much fun to shoot. If the grips are a problem you can get aftermarket ones, or make some yourself.

Of the 3 I only have the 45 and although great pistols I don't really need a 40 or Compact, because I have an HW75 which ticks the boxes of both the others. Recoilless and accurate like both and lovely trigger (even better than the 40 which is pretty good). The grip is not fully anatomical as it's ambidextrous but in practice it works very well and feels so right in the hand. It's also not got any plastic on it at all and the weight is just right.

Good choice, do try and get an HW45 as well.
Bit more poke than the 40

    Good luck, Phil
