How many belong to the MLAGB?

How many of us belong to the Muzzle Loaders Association of Great Britain (MLAGB)? (Me, me, I just joined!

I'm a member - more really to support the governing body of our sport rather than any direct benefit to me.

I am a member, shooting B/P shotgun, with the Gloucestershire Branch, great fun lots of smoke, noise and general good natured banter. ATB Dickie.

    I didn't.

    Got no black powder, me.

...and with a rifle that shoots 90gr of the stuff at a time, ear'oling it off a pal at the range is not really an option. : (

I use Pyrodex in my Musketoon - 40gr and a wad, well rammed down - and in my two revolvers.

Go on, get that B/P ticket, you know you want to....... it is a lot of fun, noisy, smokey and smells great!!!!! On a serious note the actual process is not that difficult and more people need to do it. What's the old saying 'use it or loss it' ATB Dickie.

    I don't need pursuading - I've been shooting BP since 1965.

My house insurance is the problem and the storage of BP.

Was a member for 6 years but shoot little BP now, though the Tuesday theme night meets at Bisley were always interesting for the hoards that people had stashed away

Slight thread drift but does anyone know if Muzzle loading pistol is shot anywhere in North East? I have a fancy to try this but haven't yet found anywhere to shoot. As airgun only these days I have lost contact with those might have helped.

I just don't fancy the stuff in the house.

Black powder is becomig such a pain to get hold of. My local shops won't stock it anymore because of the cost of transportation and storage. Pyrodex and 777 are a much more viable option for them.

Not only that, heard that there is supposedly some antastic "substitutes" about to be released and one of them is allegedly non corrosive! I don't think black powder will die off as there will always be purists, but I reckon it will just be more problematic.

The MLAGB need to understand that "ML" is Muzzle Loading" and not Black Powder. they could be cutting right back on potential members. And seeing the "average age", the organisation could just die off.....

They now do breech loading, black powder small arms so they aren't exactly stick in the mud

If they dropped the black powder requirement they'd be the same as everyone else. If you don't shoot competitions requiring BP you can load Pyrodex, triple 7, what you will. Nobody seems to care what you load so long as you don't explode.

I think muzzle loading is an old man's sport and given the constant supply of old men they should be okay.

I just bought a years supply of Swiss #4 from Peter Starley, mail order. OTOH I am from the baby boom generation, live in a million pound house and have few remaining pleasures to spend the money on

Interesting that the thread should be started by an American, nice one Jim.

MLAGB is a good thing and should be supported, from a non member. Why am I not a member, well as said above their competitions are mostly for true black (apart from a few), they turn their noses up to those who choose the alternative. I'm not sure that its an elitist attitude or a desire to maintain tradition.

I know that a lot of Amercan gun shops have stopped stocking BP because of tightened regulations and massive insurance increases. The alternatives to BP are not classed as explosive but as propellants so not so restricted.

As I've said elsewhere I hold my guns for target shooting as required by my FAC, not for historic or aesthetic reason. I'm not competetive though I do have a go at my clubs fun competition, the law does not insist that we enter competitions just that we target shoot.

I think MLAGB should stop being so fussy about what goes in the guns and concentrate on the hardware and making this branch of shooting more open to people.
