    Hi Matt

    The thing is fella ...

    ... this aint a democracy.

It isn't a 'power to the people' site.

It's very kindly provided ... for free ... by the sponsors ( see bottom of all pages ) and is run voluntarily by a bunch of Mods.

Most of these Mods are decent, normal people ( Ok Cooper's a bit weird and keeps showing dodgy pictures to members that turn up to his stall at game fairs ) and will listen and respond to member's comments ...

... but the day we start having votes and pressuring them into doing as we say ... will be the day the site falls on it's bottom.

Sometimes we just have to swallow the bitter pill ... even if we don't like it.

Jeeez .... I'm doing far too much sucking up and quite frankly I'm nauseating myself.

I need to go wave my bum through the headmaster's window and get myself back on the naughty list.

We don't see the other side of the story ... the PM's he will be getting from the members who don't want to see lots of HFT threads in the general section. My opinion, as stated, is to tell them to just not read them but the Mods have to try and strike a balance.

Now we know where the threads are it's no big deal to jump to this section.

I could name a few 'old time' mods that would have had the iron rod out by now but this guy remains civil and responds personally to most comments.

It's always the new ones that want it changing and want to increase their post count!

Personally, I think someones got their backup after being given a rolloking for spouting nonsense and after a cyber wrist slap has gone on a bitch and moan fest, because other boys have put events stuff in general. But then I've been known to miss the point more often than missing what I shoot at!

I don't bother reading threads about AT, .177 V .22, Which Springer is best, Whats the best pellet for killing rabbits and pigeons, who can make me brass bits? How difficult is it not to click on something?

We know what's happened here fella ...

    ... and you are right.

Some guys were moaning about the events page getting blocked up with one or two people having a personal conversation about the shoot they went to at the weekend. This made the other events ads keep dropping off page 1.

So the Mods create a sub page so that people can discuss the shoots at will without it effecting the events ads page.

Having now created this ... you can see how easily 'some members' may then have commented ... " Well why isn't all that HFT World's stuff going in the post event chat section ? ".

    ... and Voila !

Poor old Gareth is .. as he said .. between a rock and a hard place.

... but you already knew all that.

Er ... and where was your tweed at Kelmarsh ?

Firstly Gareth thanks for being a Mod, I am sure it is truely a thankless task.

However in respect of the events section I can not but feel that you have created something that is unnecessary, although there was a lot of banter rubbish posted on most of, especially the Sussex, threads, all that so called bumping did was jostle the threads about on the front page. If people found complaint with this then I am frankly bemused and for you to have increased your work load in respect of this in relation to the forum I find bizarre.

The events section now is akin to a grave yard with little if any life in it and now we all have to navigate to the naughty corner to catch up.

I do feel for Gareth but why should the majority of sensible BBS users suffer? It's like a post Kelmarsh knee jerk reaction. Especially when we can't have the knitting section back!

I was wanting a tweed suit made but the tailors weren't too keen on letting me try stuff on whilst I was covered in mud - Understandably so I thought! I collected some more business cards but will probably take a trip over to Brocklehursts Of Bakewell as usual.

Hi Matt, no veiled insults in this post so no, it won’t be deleted . But over twenty p-ms complaining about HFT threads in just one day would suggest that it was broken, and so did need fixing.

Honestly, these changes are not changes for changes sake, but to try and find a happy middle ground ... And for the record, at least six of the complaints about HFT threads in the general section, and all the complaints about banter bumps in the events section came from HFT shooters ...

Hmmm ... Been on here a good deal longer than you my fine friend, actually hate change for change's sake, and as for wanting to bolster my thread count? Sorry to dissapoint, but I am not that shallow ... ...

Once again, have a day promised to my kids (half term) so I will be off line in a mo until late evening. But there have been some very good posts on this thread thus far (both understanding of the changes and against), so keep the constructive thoughts (and knitting tips and patterns ) coming. Atb: G.

It seems silly to me to have to move around the pub for a different conversation, when you can keep your same seat and change the conversation . Gareth you already know my opinion on the matter and it seems that I'm not alone.
