    Barrel straightening....

can it be done? My mod 27 has obviously been fired whilst cocked at some time and has the tell tale banana shaped barrel. It's straighten or replace time.

I purchased a BSA Cadet major for a tenner at the wildfowlers club auction last year and it had a bent barrel caused by firing it numerous times with barrel open. It was bent upwards by about 15 degrees and the rifling was actually creased inside at the front of the breech block. I sawed the barrel of in front of the breech block & then heated the breech allowing the barrel stub to be driven out. The old barrel was straightened & turned down to fit the breech, recrowned and my boy now has probably the only Cadet major carbine going! by the way it shoots like a demon.
