Christ, I'd get three different rifles for that money! Nah, in fact I'd buy second hand and get SIX different rifles!!
Hi there,
A freind wants a PCP combo, he has set a limit on £1500 to purchase a FULL setup.... He is after removing a wood pigeon problem and is not interested in FT or any other use for it.
He has FAC/shutgun certs already, but I doubt he needs FAC for this purpose.
I suggested a daystate mk3rt or HW100 plus bottle/mod/bipod/bottle/regulator...but as I don't have his budget, I don't really know that level of rifle.
Any ideas ?? What is his best scope to choose ??
Hopefully going to BAR next Saturday and pickup everything.
thanks all.
Andy
ps. He has a LOT of shooting land and a couple of shot gun clubs, and it looks like I will get a shoot out of this

same here dobin you can never have enough back up m8
with that budget from bar my money would go on,
Rifle, MFR .177 + spare buddy bottle + 17 shot mag, approx £900
Scope, Weaver V16 4-16x42 £319
12 litre 300 bar bottle £239
Total £1,458
Get a few boxes of exterminators with the change and he's set for months
I'd have to agree with that one Barrie, then again I'm bias regarding a .177 MFR
Dazz
MFR, Hawke Sidewinder 6.5-26, 12.2L 300bar bottle, logun gunmat, and 4 mags
my set up
around £1500ish
oh - and all purchased from BAR too
MFR .20, new ags sidewheel swat scope, bottle, bag
Assuming he needs a tool for a job not a “desirable new toy” i.e. the latest, the prettiest, the most expensive, the shiniest and so on.
Then:-
- BSA S10, AA410, Various Falcons. But he must try them for fit and feel.
Scope in the £150-200 range not the best but should get the job done.
300 Bar C/F bottle and adapters.
With enough left over for his holiday flights and maybe more….
Regards Ora

In the circumstances I would advise him to use a shotgun. Perhaps not as sporting, but easier, more certain and more humane! Alternatively there are a host of .22 rimmies that will take a decent hunting scope for under £500.Originally posted by andy_scouser

woah....many replies, thank you all.
plenty of choice there, i hadn't even thought about the mfr.
having multiple rifles is not what he wants, as he has other firearms, and i think, 24 shotguns
He just fancies an air rifle, and wants a 'dogs' one at that. He has been shooting for years but never had an air rifle, it sounds like he wants a different challenge and a more discreet answer to his problem.
the daystate or hw100 is out do you think, I can see how your thinking, as their are 3 other farms that have asked him to clear, I can't see him wanting to lug a bottle around with him.
BAR's choice of scopes seems quite limited, if their website is to be believed...we may go elsewhere for that, but i have never looked down a weaver..
as far as rimmies are concerned, I wouldn't shoot mine up into a tree.....
I'll side with each part Barrie suggested apart from the scope. SS 10x42 for me. But them I've got it all already. Forget the spare bottle and go for the BAR carbon shroud and a few more Exterminators.
David.
If he does consider the MFR you will get at least 200 (.177) shots from a 200 bar buddy bottle fill, another buddy bottle will give another 200 shots (£61 from Theoben) and weighs less than a kilo.
It sounds like he wants the "desirable new toy" option.Originally posted by ora8i
