best way to load the 45 is to thumb the hammer to expose the breech,put the safety on,load the pellet then cock it and close with your hand on the scope rail/rear sight side of overlever.......saves your fingers should the trigger sears fail.
Sage advice there. I also find it less fiddly to do it that way as the breech is closer and pointing toward you
Superb guns though. I had one in the mid 80s but stupidly sold it. I used to shoot it indoors on the lower power setting but got very frustrated that the POI on the higher setting was so different. I should of course have kept it and just set it up to use the higher one. Anyway I rectified that by getting one off here a few months ago.
I think the one I've got may be tuned as there's no spring noise on firing just a nice crack/pop. Still that old familiar burnt oil smell though which is all part of the experience.

The deiseling is part of the fun of shooting an HW45. Enjoy, they're great but my 0.22 kicks like a rifle.
