As many of you will know Nikon is one of the biggest and best optics manufacturer i the world. this being said there scopes have always appeared good value for money but i have never actually bought one, till now

My .223 Howa has had a varied scope life since i bought it in January of this year from Foxy. originally it had a MTC Mamba 4-16x50 which i liked but then 3 months later i decided i wanted to get into "dialing in" so needed some target/tactical turrets. i decided to buy a second hand eb sniper 10x42 scope from a member of this forum. this scope was again very good and i used it to dial in targets out to 400yrds. the only problem with the scope was that it became very hard to see any rabbit beyond about 250yrds so i decided i needed more magnifacation.

I came across the fieldmaster whilest searching through the vast quantities of scopes uttings.com has to offer and it seemed to have everything i needed. high mag, target turrets, good glass all for under £250

It arrived on tuesday and i have to say i'm very impressed with it. it came with a 30year warrenty, a sun shade and two sets of turrets, one target, one tactical.

The scope has 1/8MOA adjusts with 6MOA per turret revolution and a total of 50MOA of internal adjustment, which isn't to bad for a scope with a 1" tube and a high mag, infact is more than enough to let me dial in targets beyond 600yrds. the turret design is very good, better than the eb sniper, the clicks are precise and accurate, and they are easly resetable to zero.

The scope had a choice of 2 reticles, a plex or a cross hair with dot. i went for the plex because i thought the cross hair and dot would be to fine to show up well under the lamp. the plex reticle is good but i would have prefered it if the thinner lines in the middle where slightly longer, but you cant have it all can you.

The zoom ring is very smooth and not to stiff, and the side focus is the same and the scope will focus down to less than 50yrds without any problems on any mag.

And now to the best bit of the scope, the optics! without a doubt the best i've owned. they are crisp and clear even on x18 although the field of view is quite small. the nikon is a step above MTC and EB optics and this is especially telling when shooting towards the sun in the evening time.

all in all i am very pleased with this scope and i think it may have to be a permanent edition to the .223, i would highly recommend this scope to anyone, a great value for money rifle scope with superior optics to anything in it's price range.
