my first hft at maldon 21/6/09

i did not know just how hard it is to accurately judge ranges.so that is my excuse.many of my shots were just a little high as i thought most of the targets were at 50yards+.it was a good day out and i did enjoy myself.it was a lot more interesting than my usual 20yard standing comps that i do.i will definately give it another go.i came 22 which i am a little dissapointed with as i was hoping to do a little better but there is allways next time after a lot more practice

Range find/measure some objects (garden, from one side of the road to the other, etc.) and use them as a mental reminder/comparison to range a target.

And the mark one hairy eyeball can be quite good at rangefinding with some practice too.

Oh, and practice, practice, practice (also known as any excuse to shoot).

These are the target distances for UKAHFT

    TARGETS (and Permitted Distances)
    • 15mm to 19mm Hit zone Targets from 13yds up to a maximum of 25 yd's.
    • 20mm to 24mm Hit zone Targets from 8yds up to a maximum of 30 yd's.
    • 25mm to 34mm Hit zone Targets from 8yds up to a maximum of 35 yd's.
    • 35mm to 45mm Hit zone Targets from 8yds up to a maximum of 45 yd's..

If you can figure out the approximate size of the hit zone, the table above may give you a clue as to the possible range of distances the target might be at.

you don't need scales or any specialist cleaning equipment.
    Cheap effective solutions follow;

    1) washing- Put them in a cloth bag (Make sure it is tied properly) and stick them in the Washing Machine when your missus does colours...don't let her see...let it be a surprise.

    2) Weighing- Simples!...use Gravity it is free, hold one pellet in each hand..(Over soft carpet) at the same height, drop them simutaneously, if they both hit the floor at the same time..they are fine!
If any hit the floor first, save them for the 'Longer shots' as they are a tad more aerodynamic.
Could save you a mint.. (I believe ryan uses a similar method).

Was good shooting round with you Zak You pulled off a few cracking shots during the course As we spoke about after the course, experiment with different zero distances and practice practice and more practice There is no better thing for improving your shooting than lots or range time and experience
Catch up with you at Bisley mate
    All the best

    Shocked

I am sure I told him the max distance was 45 yds, but then he is such a crack shot at his 20 yds comps I might have told him that the max distance was 65 yds with a 5 mm kill and that all targets over 30 will be deffo 65 yds and always always go 1 mildot more than you think. well i have to make sure i beat him some way or another
