    Bullets for .577 Snider?

    Hi, folks,
To some extent this thread leads on from the 777 Advice one, because I've used 70 grains volumetric of 777 FFG behind a 535 grain Custom Bullets Minie in .577 Snider. Any airgap was filled with Trex. I've also tried thin wads, thick wads, and reduced loads with the resulting airgap filled with polenta - because no bugger else in the family would eat the stuff .

I think this load was perfectly safe to shoot, and it didn't have the severity of Pyrodex, which at one time was causing the middle band of my 3-band to shog forward and pulling the ramrod out as well.

But it wasn't at all accurate, and I think the heavyweight Minie in the 78" twist was the problem - Gawd knows I've tried changing everything else. Do any of you good gentlemen know where I can get either .600" round ball, or a shorter bullet closer to the original 480 grains? I'd rather avoid casting.

    Regards,
    MikB

    Andy Allwood is your man.
Allwood Stocks and Mouldings in Surrey.
Google him, his web site is full of info and he either has or will cast whatever you want.

In the event that you do go the casting route then KAL's .590" Paradox is the best boolit I've found for the Snider cartridge.

Ta very much, but I'll try to get down there myself - I'm in a redundancy shadow at the moment, and if it hits me the Snider's probably one thing that'll have to go. I'll know in a couple of weeks.

It seems that Andy Allwood has started posting (as in sending bullet etc by post/courier) again .......

based on the parcels & he asked me to post for him last week !!!

I guess lead in the post isn't going to be cheap - but if you need it

    Cheers

    MikB.

I'm Redditch too and if a job takes me down that way (I run a Private Hire business) I'll try & look in and pick up some bullets for my 3 band Enfield. If I do go I'll let you know. May save you postage/carriage costs.
