Post it in 'rimfire/centrefire' next time, and the answer to your question will be in here http://www.devon-cornwall.police.uk/...rearms/age.htm
Edit: a straight out answer is 'no', not even if you have a shotgun certificate.

Well I guess that depends on how much older than 14 you happen to be talking about.
Also depends on where you plan to shoot. Banks, Building society's are major no, no's btw.

Oops, misread the question, thought he said 'under 14', but as Pavel said it depends how much older.

It would appear from Jamie's profile he's just turned 16, therefor from the Devon constabulary website, this applies:

    Under 17 years old

    CAN:
    Hold a shotgun certificate
    AND
    Hold a firearm certificate

    CAN:
(If authorised by the relevant certificate)

Receive a gift of a shotgun from the age of 15 years
Receive a gift of a firearm from the age of 14 years
Possess a shotgun if covered and secured from the age of 15 years

    CANNOT:
(Even if the holder of a relevant certificate)
Purchase or hire shotguns until 17 years old
Purchase or hire firearms until 17 years old

From the tenor of Jamie's posting I would guess that he:
    Is 14 years old
Does not possess a shotgun permit or FAC
Owns an illegal firearm of doubtful provenance
Possesses a shotgun which may be out of proof
Knows less than squat about guns and gun safety/law
Should go to a gunshop and swap the shotgun for a Gat.

I suggest a swap for a dictionary would do him more good.
