    Remington/crosman air rifle

    Anyone seen/tried/bought this yet?

It pushes a 7.9g .177 pellet at up to 1000fps which puts it in FAC territory (16ft lb).

Looks good though. Judging by the American prices it's likely to be around £120 ish over here

It doesn't say 7.9 grains anywhere - American retailers, faced with a velocity hungry shooting population, often carry out their tests with lighter ammunition in order to be able to sell a "1000 fps rifle"

Hmmm, I was making an assumption. It was pictured with Remington heavy pellets which are 7.9grains (says so on the tin) so that is what I based it upon.

Surely .177 pellets can't differ that much? I think whatever pellet you use it is likely to be ove 12ft lb.

The fact is that there are no stated weights for 1000 fps and the fact that you're happy to stand by your assumption is the reason why such advertising tactics work

If the pellet weighs 5.4 grains or less, power will be sub 12 ft/lbs.

According to Something I read on the yellow forum it’s a re-badged Turkish Hatsan (spelling?) with a poor trigger.

And would you buy something badged by Remington when the same company were happy to put their name on your sister's hairdryer? I mean, ok, Baikal did the same thing, but at least it's a hair dryer with selectable rates of fire and a 30 round mag

Air rifle manufacturers will test in batches - eg. 10 rifles with ten pellet types and strings of 10 shots per. If just one rogue shot with the lightest pellet diesels and produces a velocity of almost 1000fps then they will use it as proof that this model is 'capable of 1000fps'.
In the same vein, can any of us say that they can regularly equal the car manufacturers claimed mpg? I doubt it very much
