Diana Mk2 pistol: what's it worth

My friend picked up his Dad's old air pistol while we were up country at the CLA Gamefair last weekend. It's a Diana MK2, which is a Gat style push barrel in .177 calibre, with no box etc.. . It is good nick with nice deep blueing. I realise that these are pretty common but am after a valuation for my mate

Can anyone tell me what it is worth. Thanks

Interesting. Most of the guys I have asked , including 3 dealers at the CLA Gamefair said £30 to £40. It will be interesting to see what other people think.

Yes, some dealers who specialises in collectable air guns such as those who could afford trade stalls at the CLA would have it up for £30-ish for sure, as they have dealership overheads, and a proven client base, but as a private sale, it is unlikely to get a dealership price ... If your friend's Dad wants to sell it however, why not tell him to try an advert around the £30+ mark for it here, and see what happens, as if the right collector is looking at the right time, he may strike it lucky . Whats it worth

The point here is what you mean by "what's it worth". In discussions with a dealer I know very well, he said he would normally pay a private seller around 50-60% of the price he would ask for it. Many dealers are prepared to knock 10% off the asking price, so this would leave him a reasonable profit. The dealers at the Fair were probably saying what they would sell it for. At the end of the day, as has been said on here many times, it is only worth what someone is prepared to give for it. If someone wants something badly enough they will pay the price.

You all make good points, most of which I already knew. I know these are common so I will let my mate know and he may decide to keep it, as it was his dad's who passed away earlier in the year. Thanks for your replys.

Hi again neumo, then if you can, get your friend to keep it, as £20 or £30 quid will be gone, down the pub, within an hour ... His Dad's old Diana pistol can be with him, and in turn, his children, forever however, and will always last as a collectable curio connecting them all to their own family's immediate past . Atb: G.

I agree, for that kind of money it would be worth keeping but he wanted to try & sell it. I have had one reasonable offer & I am seeing him tonight, so we will see what he decides.
