Could someone please explain to me the principles of barrel shrouding. I've a Webley Axsor rifle, which with a silencer is pretty long. Reading through a mag I read about the S10 bull barrel which seems to me to be a silencer over the top of the barrel, so wondered if something similar could be rigged on the Axsor. First ideas are
1. Remove the block holding the muzzle end onto the air cylinder (allen screw)
2. Fit tube (lined with sound cloth?) the length of the barrel with a few cm over the muzzle end
3. Attach this to the air cylinder using the original screw hole
4. Fit endcaps to front and back, drilled off centre to accomodate the barrel end and pellet exit
Questions or suggestions - how far over the end of the muzzle should the tubing project? How large should the exit hole be (.22 cal)? Do shrouds typically have any sort of baffles in the front section to deflect air back into the rear section? Suggestions for tube diameter to effectively silence the noise but not be too large? Recomendations for tube (shroud) material? Has anyone else tried this? Am I missing the point in a grand way and its not even worth attempting this?
pretty sure they have baffles mate, make marc strip his baby
There is a shroud available for the Webley FX2000, maybe it could be made to fit an Axsor?
The FX shroud does not have any baffles, but a "perforated tube" in the section in front of the muzzle (which is 90mm btw).
The original piece that is Loc-tited on the end of the barrel (which is bolted to the air cylinder) is replaced with a sort of sleeve which has the same outer diam. as the shrouds inner diam. The sleeve has holes to lead air to the space between barrel and shroud.
I have installed a shroud on an RWS Scimitar/FX Ultimate and the FX2000 is supposed to be similar...
FX Typhoon/Logun Solo
Crosman 3540 (9mm)
Lots of Brococks......
Springfield 1911 A1 Distinguished Custom .45ACP
Smith & Wesson 29-2 .44 Rem Magnum
Smith & Wesson 24-3 3" .44 S&W Special
And a few hunting rifles....
Thanks for that info, especially about the FX2000 - I'll look into that. I'm not sure that I want to strip down Marc's baby - I don't think that she's toilet trained yet! Ben, just back for a few days before another job, but I'll catch up in mid-September
Recomendations for tube (shroud) material? Has anyone else tried this?
Done a one off in 1997 for a well known customiser. Barrel shortened with an over barrel silencer all ending flush.
The barrel will need supporting at or near the muzzle with a new A frame or similar arrangement.
A shroud is just a sleeve over the barrel.
ive noticed a lot of shrouded barrels of late,
is this an underhand way of getting rid of silencers ?
i smell a home orifice rat at work
or am i just being paranoid ?
lots of takedowns
I see the AA s410 E has a shrouded barrel, rather than the silencer that the other models have, and this model seems pretty popular in the states.
think its a must in the states now, no detachable silencers on air guns due to them being used on firearms
you chaps aint coming any where near my mfr!LOL -look forward to seeing you jo!
