Iv had it in both! .22 for one of these for sure. It seems to be more refined in .22 and at the pistol range's, it has more power in .22.

Dont rule out .20 for pistols

In answer to your question .177, alot better for target work. I really like the HW45 in .20 and dont think you would be disappointed if you went down this road.

    Kindest Regards

    Hi, I've got an HW45 made in 1989. Originally marked 177. I have 177, 20 & 22 barrels.

    HERE

The 22 is the softest to shoot.
Grab whatever one you can get and buy another barrel later.

Good luck in your choice, Phil

Not had my .177 that long but ive found that with superdomes 8.3 grain, its smoother/less recoil than it is with bisley LRG 7.6grain!

    Just my twopeneth!

Just to add my 2p I've got a .22 HW45 and heavier pellets tend to make it smoother/more controllable, would think the same applies to .22 compared to .177

I had a .177 in the late 80s and traded it in to a shop for something, probably getting a risible price. Regretted it ever since so finally bought one off the BBS in January. It's an older one without truglo sights and it's a lovely shooter. It may have been tuned because there's no twang just a more firearm-like crack/pop and it does 600fps with RWS Geco . I'm not really a fan of .22 in pistols (or even rifles in legal limit) .177 is far more versatile IMHO. And the pellets are far cheaper!
