    Shepreth Results 23/8/9

It was fairly windy yesterday, right from the start and it was still blowing for the pistol comp at the end of the day. Despite this, we saw some impressive scores in from Pete D,Jennie, young Jack and Ralph with his boinger. Today also saw the first part of a grudge match between Big Chris and Mr Chilly, who despite their best efforts to put each other off, carded equal scores and will have to settle it in a fortnight at Maldon - unless they both attend our night shoot the day before and really put their skills to the test.
A big thankyou to those who helped with setting up and clearing away after the shoot, and to the girls for the constant supply of top nosh - especially the cheesecake.

Another superb day ... thank you Mark and all the other officials.
Some may have seen Anne with a Haenel Schmeisser bolt action gallery gun (c. 1933) on the plinking range after the shoot. It fires 4.4mm, 7.3gn lead balls and a chrono test at home shows it has a mv of 175fps for a heady power level of around 0.5 ftlb. A swift calculation suggests that in the absence of air resistance it would have a maximum range of about 960ft. I have not worked out the max range with air resistance but guess it would be around 300 ft ... if anyone can furnish the necessary equations, let me know.
    Cheers, Phil

You have too much time on your hands, good shoot though and well done to Anne second behind Wayne is no small feat

Another excellent course - with a wierd wind direction which threw a fair few people by the looks of the scores (me too, but I blamed the hangover) I mean - how can I miss a prone 30 yard 40mil gimmee? All too bleedin' easy

But the camo net I bought off Mark Z made up for it. Parked myself out by a barbed wire fence in the middle of a field and the pidgeons were landing (briefly, and not taking off again!) less that 20 yards away.

    Nice.
