Strane BSA pellet tin at the bootsale...

    hey up all

one for the pellet tin collectors here...
i was going round my local carboot sale this morning and came across this strange pylarm tin

    >>>Strange pellet tin<<<

    >>>t'uther side<<<

now i've never seen a pellet tin the likes of this one in over half a century, can anyone say (or even hazard a guess) as to how these would have been originally obtained???

i've never seen them in the shops so possibly they could have been complimentary, possibly when a BSA product was returned for repair or something similar??????

    regards, john..

pS, i bought the tin from the same lady that i bought some from last week, her hubby used to have a shop somewhere..
    these were last weeks haul...

Its just a guess, but from the typeface used and the fact it is aluminium, not plastic I would have thought late sixties early seventies. Someone on here will know for sure. I had a Meteor new in 1983 that came with the same size container, but it was clear plastic.

I have a similar 'Pylarm' screw top aluminium tube, also in .22, but have no idea how it was issued.
I've looked through several old BSA advertisements, and they all show plastic tubes of pellets in the boxes.

I see you haven't soaked the label of one of your 'Star Shot' boxes yet.

    Hi John,

These metal containers were indeed used as complimentary samples and were included with boxed BSAs in the 1960's. I have a BSA booklet from the mid 60's illustrating such a tin. BSA continued to include sample packs of pellets throughout the 80s and 90's but the pack was made of plastic rather than metal. Not sure if they still do? My example has a dent at the top & looks like some heathen used it for a target, so well done on an interesting purchase.

    Kind regards,
    John

    Hello John

    Thanks for the info

this tin has a small dent on the top edge, it looks as though it's been dropped whilst full of pellets

i was offered an unopened box of percussion caps and a couple of part full ones but even though i have a couple of ladies muff guns (crumbs, that sounds saucy) i thought better of buying them
