    Webley pistol box mystery

Another late night alcohol fueled forage on the net produced a custom made Webley pistol box, obviously for a pre-war straight grip I assumed it was for a Junior tin plate, however, it is for a MK1 but all my MK1s have overhang barrels.
So, has anyone seen a short barreled Mk1 or did the maker of the box a. cut down the normal barrel or b. fitted a Junior (smooth bore) barrel maybe for use with darts (though the cut out takes a Webley pellet tin)?

It is quite well made though the lid has warped over the years and if I can't find a gun to fit it it will be up for sale at £25.00 (ish).

    Fitted box

Could it be for an Abbas Major or another make?

Nope, but for the missing barrel overhang cut out it fits snugly. Looking at the books (and a 1939 sales leaflet) I wonder if it was for one of the last straight grip MK1s that got given a short, slope grip barrel, after all some of the slope grip pre-war MK1s got the overhang barrel????????
