    Japanese Classic or Madman's Dream?

I recently accidentally bought a copy of the February 1986 copy of 'Air Gunner' magazine. In the Air Gun Collection section by John Atkins, there is reference and a picture of a Japanese Heirinkan 120X match air-rifle, and also a tangential reference to a 'more common' Heirinkan Sport air-rifle. They lived in the 1960s allegedly, in Japan (bit like Godzilla but less radio-active). The pic looks a bit like a Sharp Pan-Target, and the match rifle is a chunky-stocked sidelever, probably a single-stroke pneumatic.

Has anyone, EVER, EVER heard of the Heirinkan (not Heineken) Japanese air-rifle?

'Cos I never til today. Innit?

Heirinkans are pretty scarce, but I got my first one years ago from a fellow in the UK. It was the "standard sporter" version, built like a tank (like an Ace but heftier). Later I found a "target" version similar mechanically but with a broad forend/pump handle making for easy pumping, and a match aperture rearsight. I also acquired a "3Position" target rifle with Swiss-style buttplate and double-set trigger, though the pump still swings straight downward. I don't think either of these is actually the "120X" model, however.

    Heirinkan 120X

I have a Heirinkan 120X match pneumatic air rifle, I am hoping that my pal MarkD will post a couple of pictures for me later.

    Hi Dave,
It's .177 cal. you need about 4 pumps for target shooting, but this one can be pumped to get about 11 ft. lb. I believe this model won medals in the Tokyo Olympics.
