    hft bracketing

looking to start doing a bit of hft and was intrested in the scopes used. what is the max mag you can use? I also hear that in hft you bracket the target for range finding and was wondering how this is done?
Looked at the mtc viper 10x44 and was wondering if this is any good for hft.
Any info will be greatly received and a little break from ft will be nice. cheers tosh

Suprised no ones answered this, hell i'll have a go

I seem to remember a max of 12 mag but i stand to be corrected.

The viper fixed 10 is a very popular choice and was what i was using until i went to the mk 4. I found the scb ret to give an aimpoint for all ranges.

I used to zero at 30yds and parralax at 25, this gave a clear view from 12 ish out to 40, some use the slight blur to distinguish the 45's.
8yd'ers were a bitch tbh but not all courses set mini's on every peg

Bracketing is a dark art that i've never tried, you need to know the size of a standard knockdown with a kz in the center, around 110mm i think, from the spring to the center, this way once you've measured this at all ranges you make yourself a chart,...not all kz's are center so that's that idea pooped.

But beware of course setters making smaller versions so that you'll mis-range and shoot straight over the top

I'm sure some more knowlegable members will provide the correct info

Guessing can be good ... especially with non-standard targets, with non standard kills and non-standard course builders, who're wired-up wrong.
    Works for me ....... sometimes!

Usually 10 mag but be aware the targets can and are 'trimmed' so bracketing cannot be relied on

PS HFT is very addictive be warned

    Hi

There is no max mag for the UKAHFT.

Some clubs have a Sporter style or similar and some of those have a max of 12x mag.

The 10x fixed mag scopes seem to be very popular ... for me 10x is a bit too much and I can't cope with the out of focus close targets.

It's the same boring advice I'm afraid ... get to a club and people will be queueing up to let you look through their scope. Take them up on the offer ... look through as many as you can and see what suits you.

Just wait till I'm back to help him with range and windage, them you'll see his scores tumble.
