    Webley service mk2 rifle

    Hi
Iv been offered the above rifle for what i think could be a good price, however i havnt seen it yet
iv no idea of calibre or conditon
What should i look for in terms of common wear/damage ?
how much is a good example worth? and is a basket case worth having?

Check whether the serial on the barrel matches the serial behind the trigger guard. Check that the lugs holding the intercepter sear forward of the breech are sound and not cracked. Check the rifle cocks securely and that the sear is engaging with the piston. Check the sights are all there and complete, including the peep sight. A good price might be anywhere between about £200 and £500 depending on exact condition and which of the three series it is, 1st, 2nd or 3rd. Extra barrels, especially matching serial ones do wonders for the value. Do some archive searching for descriptions of each series.
