Just bought an Enfield P53 3-BAND

Hi there

After a few months of searching, I have bought a nice original P53 Enfield dated 1862.

Forgive my ignorance, but I wish to do a little cosmetic work on the hammer and wondered if it is just the case of removing the large screw to remove it? I'm just worried that the screw holds others things in place within the lock?

Can anyone giive me some guidance?

hi Nick, the big screw only holds the hammer on, nothing else, but, if its not been off for a few years might be difficult, you might need to make some hardwood or soft metal wedges to tap between hammer and lockplate, or it might just lift off, cheers Tezz
