    Haenel 28

    Hi all
Can anyone shed some light on the Haenel 28 air pistol.
This was tucked up in a loft by a neighbour. Was her fathers, wrapped in an oiled (dried out) rag. Grip is marked with Birthday Nov 1936.
    Is this age right???
In overall very good condition for age. Spring very strong and shoots to point of aim at 6 yards or so. Could do with a strip and lube.
Anyone have any info on these??

    Looks like a Luger??

    Cheers John

    What a wonderful find!

Fascinating air pistols, designed by Hugo Schmeiser himself! Don't develop overly much power and a bugger to cock, but nevertheless fine, especially in this condition which is very fine. The oily rag did its job. There were several versions of this gun, form the late 1920s into the 1930s, beginning with the 'Haenel Air Pistol' and then moving on to the model 28. Big importation into the UK where they were one of the most common heavy steel airpistols, pre-war, after the Webley Senior etc.

There was also a cheaper version, the model 26, which was largely alloy made, and in my opinion is better balanced.

They were styled after the luger, though theres no evidence that they were ever used as a military trainer.

Value wise, I'd have thought that this one must be worth around £160-70? No sign of its box perchance? Check that attic.

    Cheers Og.
Thanks for the link, nice read.
Has that Luger look and probably the weight!
Spring looks dry through the rear of the action but she seems airtight after all these years.
I half cocked the gun, placed my finger over the muzzle and lowered the frame. Still get a squirt of air when the finger is removed from the muzzle after a few seconds.
    Lovely build and 'feel'.

Will give a sympathetic lube and wipe down.

    Cheers again, John
