Stock finishing
The article in the Advice and Tips section has expired.
Anyone got a nice guide to giving a superb oiled finish?

The way i do it was lifted out of Monty Kennedy's book, The checkering & carving of gunstocks.
Once the stock is stripped & sanded as smooth as you like, put a coat of good quality oil based varnish thinned well. When its dry put some more on neat. once the grain is filled cut it back completely smooth to the wood surface with wet & dry, i use red & grey scotchbrite pads for this as well. Once thats done rub boiled linseed oil in sparingly about one coat a week, keep going as long as you want to! Chequer the stock last of all.
