    Bsa i.d please

A BSA .22 rifle has just been given to me,the owner bought it years ago to
get rid of magpies, but didn't have the heart to pull the trigger
It is an underlever type with a tap for loading the pellets.
I cannot find the serial number, but I have been told its about 20 years old,and will need a service as it has been hardly used.
A few scratches on the stock, but the blueing is good.
Came complete with 4x20 BSA scope, still with all the original stickers on it.
Next question is what is it worth?
Thanks and happy shooting this christmas.

It sounds like an Airsporter. Do you have any pics?

    Does it look like this?

It is probably an airsporter from your description, they were made from 1948 to about 2000 (I think......I am more into the earlier ones)...anyway, the fact that it has a scope rules out the mark 1, and if you say that there are no markings on the gun (have you looked under the scope?)....may mean it is a mark 2 (but then you say it's 20 years old?)....have a look in front of the triggerguard for small numbers!, If it looks very like the one in the photo, it is a later one......lots about, and price depends very much on originality and condition, so really more info or piccys needed if possible.

P.S.........maybe ask in the Collectables section......

Look around the area where the barrel joins the action, you may have to take it out of the stock to do this. You should then see the serial number.

If it's got a sloping trigger block with a tear-drop shaped trigger guard it's most likely an Airsporter. If it has a plastic end cap you could be looking at a Superstar. The fact you can't see the name of the rifle embossed on the top of the cylinder would suggest it's got a raised scope rail?

Pics would be so much quicker though......

I took the scope off to reveal all...
    In big gold letters...Airsporter
Found a serial number under the front of the underlever,
    aswell G 10926 G?
Would this give a clue to its age/value?
    Thanks for all replies,most helpful.

The serial number is probably 'GI', and not not 'G1'. This would date it to 1969-71. If not, then it could be 'GL', which would date it as 1979-83. A 'G' on its own would make it 1948-54.
