Walnut??
Freedom needs a soldier.
Some Mk2 stocks were 'one-piece' and not made in the UK from 3 pieces of walnut
These one-piece stocks were made in Italy
I have a couple of these but cannot identify the wood. it certainly does not look like walnut but is a good quality hardwood nevertheless
Perhaps someone on here may know the manufacturer and what wood these were made from.
John
hold me back !!
I'm certain that all of the three piece stock were walnut, as John said some were single piece stocks and these definitely weren't walnut, i think these were marked with Sile or something similar...

Re. The Sile stock.........these were also used on some mk 1 Airsporters as well as the mk 2's , Enfield sporters and other BSA products.......The company was SILE SPA. in Brescia Italy.......I don't actually know why BSA did this, I am presuming the 3 piece ones were more time consuming, and they couldn't keep up with the demand for the Airsporter, as I have seen later Mk 1's than mine with three piece stocks, so presumably the one piece jobbies were fitted as available, and not after a certain weapon serial number
This was my (ex) GB prefix Mk 1 with SILE stock.....

you can usually see where the stocks are joined very clear , they look a bit like different types of wood if you seen one you would know what i mean
