    Hunter Field Target

When I was a lad I used to live very near there. I used to wander around the woods with a local girl, funny enough her name was Hunter, and we did once lie down in a field - nuff said.

Talking to "Steve" about it, and especially hearing how good the hot dogs were, and then talking to "Andy" and hearing that he came 2nd, I was actually thinking of going and having a crack so I dug out my old .22 BSA Meteor springer circa 1940/1950 and took it down the club last night to see how good it shot.

The pellets had a lot of lead oxide on them, in fact "Clayton" reckoned that they were as old as the gun (I think he is probably right).

Anyway I shook em up a bit and rolled them around the bench a bit to get most of the dust off. They were a bit bent and bruised but what the H**ll - they are only slugs.

Anyway I stuck a few down to clear some of the rust out of the barrell and then got down to it. The 4X20 scope was a bit limiting because I kept on confusing the cross hair with a crack in the front lense, but still soldiered on.

When I finall zeroed it in I was getting good 7 - 12 inch groups at 20 metres, so I think I will pop down and give you all a bit of competetion.

Ah, now that would be an interesting shoot - HFT with black powder pistols

I am reasonably ambidextrous when it comes to most things. I was born left-handed according to my mother, but in those days it was considered a disadvantage to be so, so my father tied my hand behind my back to force me to use my right hand. They did that sort of thing in those days - how times have changed.

But alas, I don't think that I could shoot left handed because I am right eyed.

Left handed, Right eyed, One legged, Right leaning shooters, have an advantage at HFT especially on the hills, and should not be allowed - I mean come on - thats just cheating.

Andy Scouser and Davestate were doing the one legged stuff at the last shoot. I'm taking the camera this time.

Anyway gotta go and rinse my Lycra jogging shorts - they ride up a bit and get very..... anyway gotta go.

Every chance you'll still go blind whichever hand you use I hear.

We are there every weekend. Come on Down - but the dedicated HFT shoot is the weekend after and will continue on the 4th Sunday each month.

    28th Nov
26th Dec - We may re-arrange boxing day - unless people want to come.
    23rd Jan

As I said we are there every weekend anyway and you can shoot HFT style or FT on most days.

A bump is most welcome. Yes 28th November looms nearer.

Yes its UKAHFT Rules - we've "associated" with them and will be sticking to that format.

At a realistic level - we are teaching a lot of people a new sport and on the first shoot were pretty relaxed - However we've got plenty of copies of the rules (2005) printed out and will have a good briefing session before the next shoot. Touch scopes at you peril on the next one.

As I have said before , the more experienced people come along the better as we need any constructive help and advice thats going. So far the response has been fantastic.

    See you there.
