I would much rather Sol used his money to buy a pistol that he will get years of enjoyment from than pissing it away on beer and nightclubs like most students...if he's going to university then good on him. He will have to pay back his loan at some point so please give the kid a break.

This is probably the first time in his life he's ever got a decent wedge of money...PLEASE don't pretend that taxpayer value was the first thing on your mind when you got your student loan at 18/19 because you would be lying. If he spends this money and doesn't have enough for books, then he will learn a life-lesson like we all have at some point. Anyone would think he was Bin Laden judging by some of the posts on this thread.

Get your degree earn loads and pay loads of tax, then in 20 years or so come back as a miserable old git and whinge at youngsters doing the same as you now
