I have lost a bit of interest in the lever action events and plan to concentrate on the S/B stuff as I want to crack 1490 in the 1500 before I die of old age
Good man... and all in good humour.

Those SB are a damn sight smaller than the GR ones... hence I stay away from them.

What setup are you using for the small bore stuff??

It's a standard Ruger action fitted out with power custom trigger parts and volquartsen cocking handle, home made bolt release and hold open.
B square rail and rings. Green mountain 20in flluted match barrel all Duraoated in blue/grey metalic, the stock is a modified Boyds laminate, all topped of with a Weaver V16 4-16 x 40.
It's a heavy old lump but its utterly reliable and very accurate with Lapua club ammo.

Whatever gallery rifle I decide on the reduced spring and trigger happy kit are going on and have already been added to the 'wish list'.

I want to buy new really as my wife (bless her) is treating me and I want something that I will keep for a lifetime so I just want to make sure that I make the right decision as I am never going to get rid of it and will hopefully pass it on to our kids......

I swear she just likes me out of the house at the range rather than hanging around at home!!

No lifters broken, although admittedly I'm on my third ejector.

    Marlin Carbine

I do find it a bit of a struggle to get 9 + 1 up the spout with .357 mag. 38 special is easier. I suppose the longer barrel job would help with regard to ammo capacity in timed shooting, also less chance of a jam? Longer sightline with the 24"...also a point to consider.

I do like my pal's 24" Rossi with blued octagonal barrel, never seen a Marlin in 24" but it would appeal to me.

Haha!! apologies !! I did think you where taking this p1ss!! I had no idea there are soo many people that shoot 'proper' guns and competitions on this forum.

The lifter plate however, I as serious about. Surprised to hear you havent busted several.

I noticed you havent had a go at Match 1500 with the Winchester though, and please excuse my ignorante but what is the 'shorts' competition(s)?

    Hot scores though. Very nice

Shorts are Timed and precision 1 & 2, Multi target, advancing target etc..

Don't shoot the 1500 much at Bisley as it takes so long I usually don't have enough time to do it.

Hello all! Some advice from a friend who shoots these things. Barrel length -Buy the one that balances best for you as the length makes no difference accuracy wise. If the shorter ones suit then you'll save yourself nearly £200 and the .44's make bigger holes in the 1500. Trigger Happy kits - Save yourself £90 and simply install a 10/22 hammer spring (£2) for a pull of around 1 - 1 and a half lbs and just use Federal primers. He also says that Marlinbob should get back in the team before he's too old and Goblin357 (scope for this year though!) is good purely because he is Welsh! :-)
