    HW35 Vixen

    Hi all

I need to replace the mainspring, the diameter of the original is 20.6mm. I bougth a Titan XS No4 which is 22.4mm and will not fit. Anybody any ideas on which spring would suit?

If you check the group buy section on here there are tuning kits available but if you check you may be able to get just the spring. (the kits are worth getting I have an HW80 fitted with one and it makes a big difference to the smoothness)

The spring fitted to the Vixen is of a very high quality, and is unlikely to need replacing.

And, as you have found out, is a smaller O.D. than the standard '35 spring.

I think a BSA Lightning is 20.7mm od with a 3.1 or 3.2 wire section. this may fit but I cannot guarantee as I have no experience of the Vixen.
According to Hiller the Vixen came with a sleeved piston which decreases the bore. Also came with a matching spring guide. Piston and guide should be chrome plated. Vixen mainspring is longer than standard.
    good luck
    cheers, Phil

    Sorry ... forgot to mention.
Try Googling 'Versandhaus' and see if you find a German airgun shop (online?). They seem to do many 'original spec' springs and may do the Vixen.
    Cheers again

"POK!" is a BBS member who often has good quailty springs available. I recently bought a couple, one of which is 235mm long, 20.4 O/D with 29 coils of 3.2mm wire; the other was 27 coils and 215mm long. Both have 14mm I/D so check your spring guide!

Others which may suffice are the BSA Airsporter or BSA Lightning which are similar dimensions.

If you want the bee's knees, try Steve Pope of V-Mach.

All this assumes that the spring really does need changing - see earlier post!

Good luck; I'm sure you will be able to find a solution to restore such a prestigious example.

I'm wondering if Gerald Cardew or Hull Cartridge Company might be able to help.

I still have a couple of these left. The short spring would probably work well. Same quality wire and finish as V-mach

I have scribbled down in one of my note books:
    HW Vixen spring - 9 3/16" O.D. 21.2mm I.D. 14.15mm Wire 3.35mm

For the life of me I cant remember why/when I wrote that.

John at the risk of asking the obvious - why does it need replacing?
