    Ratty kill range

    Hi
Would you expect a crosman 2250B ratcatcher to KO a squirrel at 15 Metres?

I only ask because mine didnt. Knocked the bugger over - definately a headshot, and it still got up and ran off!! Leaving no evidence of a penatrative hit. The next one at the same pre-marked range of the bait went splat with my AA410K

Am I expecting too much of the Ratcatcher??

we have a ratcatcher that puts out 9fpe - at 15m i would expect it to do some damage although i have to say tree rats are particularly tough swines, i have seen similar results with mine and other guns running in the 11.7fpe range, hitting them smack in the head

Thats why I am asking, the only guide I have is the published figures for the 2250B - but as I dont have a chrono - I am asking the question first - ie - would the supposed 8ft lbs be enough at that range - if it is - I know my gun is not up to power.

You might also want to ponder if it was a headshot as opposed to a brain shot...

Also it might be great in summer but poo as the temp drops & CO2 becomes pants, I would happily have a Rabbitstopper/Ratcatcher to suppliment my soon to be FAC MFR in .20, if it was not for this.

Depends really - how hard did you throw it?

    The 3 I've chrono'd all shot between 8 and 9 FP, in reasonable temperatures (say 18 - 20 degrees).

At 15 yards that'll be about 7 Fp of energy - so IMHO a bit low. I personally think tree rates are the toughest airgun quarry by far.

I'd also question the accuracy of an unmoddified ratty at any rage, which follows fullmetaljacket's commend about "brainshots" - the target is only about 1/2", and a ratty is really going to struggle to hit that at 15 metres

Always looking for any cheap, interesting, knackered "project" guns. Thanks, JB.

BIN THE RATTY & STICK WITH THE AA410 M8. A RATTY IS ONLY OK FOR HITTING TIN CANS IN GOOD WARM WETHER ...REGARDS Mark.
