We found using a light blue plate with a white kill, that a lot less people had problems locating the target - unless of course they had bothered to pull the string . Also those using lower end optics stood a much better chance of 2 points on a close reducer (8 yd 20mm kill for instance) whereas with a black plate it was more down to a bit of luck as they couldn't see the crosshair properly.

On the subject of 'losing the reticle' the only time that's happened to me recently, was the target in a tunnel of foliage. on the Worlds 'Woods' course, think it might have had more to do with reduced light rather than faceplate colour, I do know that I've had a lot less problems with this since I gone from 10x to 8x with the LightStream.
Have you had any success with this setup lately old chap........you dont mention anything....

Andy raised a good point about how the reticle stands out against a black plate. I'll ask the question next time I see the guy who mentioned it, maybe he doesn't like black faceplates either, maybe he looks at the part of the ret that is in the kill, I don't know.

I liked the black kill, yellow plate - I'll read the link when I'm on the train tomorrow!

It is putting them in the right place that seems to get me!

    Hi Mark

Agreed that finding the target in blue is easy as is yellow but I think (thats me) what is needed is a way to clearly identify the KZ after 80 or more people have shot at the target and hit and missed. We both set courses to give people equal chances at the reducers by equally interspersing them around the course but if we had a way of making a target as easy to see(not read) at shot one and shot eighty then that has to be the way to go regardless of how much free paint we have available. At the Worlds I have to say I had no problems in seeing any of the targets (yellow with black KZ) just the nut behind the butt of my gun was f@@Ked. I must say though that although it doesn't really bother me that people who don't like the black on black reticle KZ should be accomodated especially as we are trying to get away from the eyesight test thing.

A few years ago I remember seeing yellow plastic sleeves slipped over the kill zone. The targets still seemed to fall okay when hit and although it didn't improve the splattered faceplate situation it meant everyone still saw a good clear yellow kill zone - even after numerous hits.

I guess someone will know why the idea was never taken up.
