Question Best sights for close range ratting?

What's the best sight for close range (5-10 yards) ratting?

I can't fit open sights (BSA Lightning), and I don't want a laser, so red dot seems the only option, but is there a low-mag telescopic suitable?

    Thanks

    Thumbs up

Hawk night eye 1.5 - 6 x 42 with german no 4 illuminated reticle, the best scope out there for ratting in my opinion.

    ratting scope

just got a lovley bsa jaguar 1.5-6x44 ir mil dot ret, focuses down to 5yds & was out till after 6pm last night but could still see enough to shoot on full mag, or a simmonds whitetail 1.5-5 x 20 wa my other fave ratting scopes. The rat's wern't playing so no kills, but one came out from under my feet too close to shoot! Small red dots are good too, lasers scare them off for some reason, tried both, got most kills with a red dot, 120+ in 8wks. If you use a scope on low mag with both eyes open like a red dot you'll get the best results.

    Hi Rat buster.
There are lots of scopes that are ok for ratting, i am doing 2500 rats per year and im using a hawk m a p 6 3x9x40, i use it on 3 mag and i can see rats from 7 yds upwards, this scope is a good all round scope, as its also done rabbits at 50 yds on 7 mag, when i had it on a .177 rapid. If you want a scope for ratting only then one with less mag ie 1 1/2 or 2 x6x20/32 would be better as it will give a wide angle, and focus better close in. When buying a scope for ratting, think of scope and lamp together, because some scopes dont have enough space on the tube to be able to fit a lamp bracket (where will you put a lamp bracket on some red dot sites). In my experiance its a waste of time going out shooting rats until it gets dark as theres very few that out in the daylight.

Thanks guys for all the suggestions.

After careful consideration I'm going to stick with my Walther, as at 4x mag and minimum focus it is sharp down to 5/6 yards and has done the business over the last couple of days. I thought trajectory might be an issue (zero'd at 15 yards), but with Bisley PC's the rats so far haven't had a second chance.

Ultimately I fancied a Simmons Whitetail Classic 1.5-5x20, but no way I'm spending £100 just to nail the odd rat.

I was about to suggest the WTC 1.5-5x20, then stopped in my tracks.
Where on earth is someone selling you those for 100£? I have two, bought for 60£ each, including mounts and covers.

Come to think of it.....the blunt end of a broom is cheaper than an airgun to nail the odd rat

I use a red dot sight for ratting as it allows for fast target Acquisition if you have both eyes open, I've tried low mag scopes and always came unstuck with range finding due to the differance between no mag on my naked eye and x4 on the one peering down the scope, I would strongly recommend you practice with it before using it in anger and it's a case of where the dot is, is where the pellet lands whilst walking and panning for your quarry. Abit like watching the FBI swat teams in Numbers

Like I said earlier in this post PRACTICE before using it in anger and you'll be surpised at how easy it is to use
Too many air guns to list but to count them all I need to take my shoes & socks off as well

Hi rat buster, just my 2p's worth on zero for short distance ratting, assuming your gun is .22 if you zero at 12 yds you will be within 1/4" from 9 yds to around 20 yds, if a rat is at 7 yds just aim for the top of its head. I use RWS hollow points.
