Well its not a 34, 48 or 52 so thats narrowed it down a bit.
Beech is actually or probably a better wood choice than Walnut, Stephen, at least for a Springer (true even in "pre-sustainable wood supplies" days, as it is now).
The chequering looks to be pressed rather than cut, which may imply 'an age'.

Looks like a G80 to me. However on many occasions I have been wrong.

Looks like its for a Diana (Millard Bros) Series 70 Model 71. Hiller "Collector's Guide to Air Rifles" 4th edition p.117

One possible extra clue, Stephen, would be...
is the 'medallion' actually plastic, not metal?
This would point to Milbro, according to 'Red Feather' on Dianawerks.
the medallion is metal,it appears to be brass.
Info conveyed, over & out .
(for now)
just did an image search for series 70 model 71 and it's different to that.if it helps it has fluting coming back from the rear of the trigger guard and has the number 1742 stamped into the wood in front of the trigger guard.
Swinging back to 'Milbro' then, (with the stock numbering).
