    Best pellet for my old BSA

    Hi guys,

    Just looking for some advise on the best probable pellet to use in my old BSA Improved Model D .177.
    At the club last night I managed to get Hobby's on target at 10m with the bead of the foresight just on the edge of the black at 6' o'clock this was a 10m air pistol target, managed to heep all the shots within the 9:10 ring.

    Now I tried some domed pellets... and the went about 3" over the top of the initial point of impact, the problem was there is no more adjustment to take the sight down

    Then I thought lets try 25yards... the hobby's were over the top of the 10 bull card by about 3-4" and grouping could only be described as ..well let's not go there, I had to look hard to find the group but it would at best be again 3-4"

    Any thoughts or ideas to bring this in a bit or is there a realistic maximum and I'm expecting to much

    Thanks

    Hi Iain.......some reading for you

    Personally, I now seem to use H+N finale match, r10's or hobbys out to 10 yards only, and air arms field in 4.52 at all ranges.....Domed are the way to go at longer ranges.....I have tried the lot!..Check your stock bolt is tight by the way, I found out from on here recently that it can affect grouping!

    These guns vary a lot due to their individual history.......I check all mine first seated, with a rolled up tent for a rest on a table,and at 8-10 yards range, The imp mod D .177 (with aperture sights) I shoot the most can do this;

    Careful cleaning of the barrel also pays off.......I now do this on every gun I shoot......they seem to like 50 or so shots to settle in after a clean...(I use a fine bronze brush in the worst cases where deposits are hard to shift)

    The above was just resting elbows on table.......the best results are by resting left hand on rolled up tent (or tackdriver rest), and a light hold in general....these are very hold sensitive, and you will find what suits you best with plenty of practise (I shoot a min of a tin a week through my main two guns, but I am lucky in that I can shoot both at work in a warehouse at up to 50 yards, and from the kitchen at home down the corridor at 8 yards)

    Interesting. Having read and re-read these posts I realize that I have never shot proper targets with my.177 Light. Always been happy to hit cans cartridge cases (used).
    I am going to have a go at matching Edbears targets.
    Not at the club because I can never get it back from people wanting a go.
    Last time 3 youngsters had it for over an hour before I remembered how old it was. No problems afterwards though.
