A few questions for you experts -

Did they all come with straight stocks ?

Did they all have the second flip-up sight ?

What would you expect to pay for a good example ?

I can only answer one of your questions definitively - I've got Juvenile serial # S69757, pistol-grip stock with flip-type sight. Unfortunately it's missing the trigger guard; it would be great to find one for it (yeah, likely).

Hi Binners,
Came with a choice of straight hand or pistol hand stock and yes, all had the flip up sight. The Juvenille was an upgrade of the earlier Junior but with a slimmer air cylinder. Price wise, you would be lucky to pick one up at less than £300 in fine fettle.

My Juvenile S65724 does not have a flip up sight and never had one. See it on Eddie's Juvenile post beside a BSA Standard.

I have taken the trigger guard off mine S no S77124, Superficially it is the same as a large plug guard but instead of the plug there is a dovetail. It looks easy enough to modify a standard guard to fit, all the other proportions are right, it may need the centres of the front holes adjusting but not by much.

Interesting...Yours is the first Juvenile without the flip up sights I have heard of Trevor. I guess it is not beyond the realms of possibility for a purchaser to have specified their requirements to BSA at the time. John Knibbs' book specifies Junior and Juvenile models being made in the batch your rifle comes from, so not impossible for a standard sight to have been fitted to your model instead of the flip up type.

Period of despatch: Nov 1913 to Sept 1914

"Nearley all Juvenile Patterns with a few Standards"

I think you'll know the difference by looking.....

You are welcome John. When I got mine I thought all Juveniles had only the standard two bladed rear sight. We have both learned something. Regards Trevor
