    Customised Cougar

As a collector I am not in the habit of customising guns but, not so long ago, bought a couple of (known to be) iffy items from ogilkes one being a Cougar.

Both front plates were broken with the bits missing and the grip had been put down on something hot so was distorted. No way was this gun going to be a pristine collectable item again.

Fortunately I have one that is (5 shots through it tops).

I used mine to make moulds to repair the fore plates and filled the big hole in the grip (the bottom plate had gone with all the distortion) using epoxy resin. Stripped the body to the metal and removed all the scratches from fixing the wire stock (which did not come with it so if anyone out there has one . . . so I could complete the job?) And generally cleaned it up before a spray of primer undercaot and top coat. Polished up the plastic and got the rest nickle plated.

    Anyway, this is the result.

    Comments?

And as an aside, how would you value a customised gun like this?

If you have a shoulder stock I can nickle plate to match I would appreciate it and, better still, if you have one of those gaudy sleeves they came in I would be most interested!

Well, it is actually much more attractive than the original. But the few people who are after Cougars want the 'original' nasty-looking ones. I think it is worth about 70 pounds as a piece of useable art, but the grumpy collectors will probably give you 50 tops, and then break if for parts.

I think you should keep it, use it as a plinker and enjoy its fantastic 'Blake's 7' ''blaster looks. You could make a 1970s space opera film and use it as the hero's gun, for it certainly looks the part! Han Solo would love to get his mits on it I am sure.

Hi Richard. I absolutely love the above Cougar, and am not just being polite for the sake of it, as that is not my m.o. Personally, I like its aesthetics more than the standard item.

This in mind then, I would value it if pushed, on a par with a vgc standard item, minimum, even possibly plus the price of the plating (but what do I know about pistols ).

Anyway, as stated I think it is a cracker, and I am pleased you shared it with us. Finally, imo, as it was personalised by you, for you, its value is academic, as it represents the perfect personal plinking keeper for your good self . Atb: G.

Hey, look what Alistair posted while I was writing the above . Nice to see I share a consensus with another (great minds and all that maybe, or similarly warped ??? ). Ha ha. Atb: G.

Warped I think, are not all of us (anorak [?]) collectors the same? Anyway, thanx for you comments guys (more please from collectors re to customise or not) I must admit to thinking it was over bling to the point of being, well, good bling.

Anyone got a wire shoulder stock so I can complete it????????
