    .177 airsporter Mk2

Just had a thought after posting on the FWB thread, and I.J.'s comment about the scarcity of .177's.....I know at least one guy on here has a fair few early Airsporters, .so just an idea coming up,

    Remember this;

    http://www.flickr.com/photos/3122848...7616789686347/

Ie. the construction of prewar BSA's.........I am sure the MK1/2 airsporters carried over this system.....that would also account for the hybrid "change-over" MK 1 slash 2 jobbies you see.....tapered barrel combined with scope grooved guns....

well, if you say had a tired looking club, and a similar Mk2 Airsporter (thinking about a scope here...but a MK 1 would do if you wanted open sights)...Then it should be a simple matter to unstick the cylinders from the barrels on both guns (gentle propane...watch for solder bubbles, and use a strap wrench)......and swap them over to get a .177 full power gun, and a "shorty" .22

Whoa there mate! Do you realise just how much power would be in that there concocted .177 airsporter?? they have been known for taking down such beesties as lions, tigers, elephants and rhino's. Thats why the .177 cal versions are so scarce! They were all sent to africa and asia to keep the public safe from rampaging critters.

    Oh no!
Its enough that one poster on this BBS rants and raves on about 'killing elephants' without a serious and knowledgeable contributor to this ere elite section starting especially so early in the day.

I like the idea, but it is a tad going down the 'vandal' route. Airgun abuse. I had a think about rebarrelling FWB300s in .22 and decided it was a fixup too far.

I had a .177 Mk.II Airsporter, complete with etching. A collectors dream you may think? Not so. Yes I am a collector, but I call myself a practical collector, ergo everything I own gets used at least once every six months minimum. This in mind then, although an interesting head turner, no matter what I did to said Mk.II .177, it was simply horrible to shoot compared to my one in .22, so rare or not, I sold it, and would never have another.

Same goes for the .177 RB-2 Stutzen, RB-2 carbine Airsporter, and carbine .177 Superstar I had -- simply horrible to shoot, so all sent on their way without a second glance. Imho, post WWII, BSA have not made a single under lever in .177 that is even average to shoot, let alone nice ... I’ll get my coat.

Got just shy of £850 for the three as detailed above when I sold them matey -- and a neat grand if you factor in the .177 Mk.II, too, so have saved you more than you may think, and not only in hard earned, either.

Ha ha ha ... No matey. Forgot all about that one. The one you had off me (must be four years ago now), was, iirc, running under 9ft.lb, ergo was a joy to shoot, as it left yer fillings in place.

    Hold on?

Didn't I have that Superstar off you?

(Methinks you should have kept yer gob shut Gareth. There will be a long list of outraged BBS owners of your old guns on this thread by the morrow. )

PS: I sold the Superstar you sold me.

... and the BSA Mercury you sold me.

... and the Airsporter Mk 6 you sold me.

... and the BSA Breakdown etc etc (If I regret selling any of them it's this one ).

PS: In case any future potential buyers read this thread, I'm joking. I have had many deals with Gareth and have never been less than 100% satisfied.

    Yes, I'm afraid I am.

Still, it could be worse, I could be going ginger on you.

Now you've 'dissed' all post-war .177 BSA's - perhaps there might be a 'sudden' depreciation of £350 to factor in

Ha ha ha. Not all .177s, only those cocked via an under lever, as imo they are mostly horrible jerky things to shoot, and make my .177 Theoben Evolution seem to recoil like a 6ft.lb .25 cal HW80K in comparison . In .22 tho, I love shooting most of BSA's post-war under lever rifles, especially my Mk.I Airsporter and RB-2.
