Big well done to the Buxted contingent yesterday.

Fantastic shooting John, Matt and Mike. Three Buxted in the top five or tied. Great form to be taking into the SiHFT for Buxted next week

Also well done Cameron on winning the Junior Series.

I make it three Sussex clearances this Series we must be getting better in the Republic.

Roll on the SiHFT and the Worlds.

Another superb course and a superb series overall. Thanks from myself and Dad to all those involved, its been a thoroughly enjoyable event.

I have to say yesterday really was a tremendous day; I can’t believe the weather we had! This must be the first shoot this year I was able to leave the jacket in the car and not approach the first peg looking like Mrs Tiggywinkle. Absolutely glorious weather. It was a real bonus being able to shoot both series on the last day too; we arrived about 9:15am in a somewhat relaxed manner having planned to do session 2 and spend the morning having a bit of a plink. As it turned out, there were two spaces left in session 1 which was about to kick off, so after a relay race back to the car to get the gear we had a very enjoyable shoot with Toby and his newly blued-and-shrouded 97

Not my best shoot… started quite well, but then I ran out of my chosen pellets (any 30 that look about the same..) and ended up shooting the pellet equivalent of Bombay Mix that accumulates at the bottom of pouches along with fluff and boiled sweet wrappers. One I don’t think quite made it to the target (that’ll be a Bisley Magnum then), and another went stratospheric (Defiant then).

After a spot of lunch we were left wondering what to do… at which point it occurred to us that we’d just shot the last round of the Southern hunters, but hadn’t shot any of the Midland. So, with the chance of a different shiny new badge to add to the anorak we signed in again… only this time I thought it’d be a bit of fun to use the gun I’d bought to plink with.
This’ll be the Original Model 35S that I picked up at an auction on Thursday.
We still haven’t chrono’d it yet, but I’m guessing its running around the 6-7ftlb mark having been dormant for a decade or so. The preparation for the shoot involved firing it once to make sure there was a spring in it, and then firing about 10 shots into the 8-yard paper target whilst frantically twiddling the open sights.
On the plus side if you’re shooting the equivalent of a shoulder-mounted mortar its not likely to be too pellet fussy, so I carried on with the Bombay Mix and anything I could find on the floor near the peg.
Having, as another shooter described ‘ more Jam than Robinsons’ I actually managed to fell 8 of the blighters and came in with a 34; just one point short of getting a Bronze! *Sniff* Never mind, it was definitely worth it for the smiles it raised and looks of bewilderment.

Next stop the Worlds…… Ooooh the temptation….
