    Webley mk2 Service Rifle age

    Hi all,

I own a Webley mk2 Service Rifle sn 12666. I know it's is a third series model but beyond that I have little idea of how old it is.

    Picture: http://i911.photobucket.com/albums/a...k/IMG_0930.jpg

If anyone could help me put an age to it either based on the sn or the photo I would appreciate it.

    Webley mk2 Service Rifle age

The Mk2 series 3 was made between 1934-1945 13,700 where made starting at serial number S2001 so yours is quite late. I have one missing the adjustable bits of the back sight if anyone can help I would be grateful.

Over 16,000 Mk.2 Services were made from 1933 starting at No. S1, (S2 is known to exist) with the bulk of production being completed by the start of the war, although a few were made during the wartime years.
Yours was probably made in the late 30's, 1938 or 1939 but there is no way of knowing absolutely, although it is known that S7000 was around by 1937.

    Interesting.

Mine is S5022 - so mid 1930's then?

It is still amazingly accurate - and looks like a real rifle should.

I need the "peep" sight (just the screw in round bit) and the swivel pin and screw for the barrel (currently using a discreet cutdown 6.5mm wire nail).

Hope I'm not too late for the oracles here, but my Service Mk.II series III has serial number S11920. Am I right in thinking this would've been produced during the 1940s war years then ???
