Webley junior long nose valuation please

Hi Gents can you help with a valuation please, Junior J16076 with spring, washer and pellet tin, Pistlol has tin plate grip, and retains 90%+ of blue/black, has a mark on the right side barrel pin and chamber see pics. Shoots fine. Box lid is torn on all four corners. Label on box states Webley&Scott Ltd 1790-1940.

    Many Thanks Len

Interesting - mine is J29352 and short nosed so one of the last - 1938/39.
If yours is 9000 behind mine and long nosed in a box dated 1940 then the box is probably not the original one. That said it is irrelevant with regards to valuation really.

    I'd say £140-£150.

The box is the correct one for the pistol, but it's possible it's not the original.
At that time, they sometimes had the serial numbers written in pencil on the box.
It's a pity the pellet tin hasn't got the 'Weaman Street' address, but as it is, I would estimate £140 - £160.
It's good to get a spring with the tag still attached.

It really is difficult to put a definite date going by serial numbers. I am no expert but do have Gordon Bruce's book - from which I glean there were approx 34000 examples made in the 9 years of production - 1929 to 1938.

There is no evidence that equal numbers were made each year - so I'd guess that mine was 1937/8 and yours earlier - 1934/5 - only a guestimate though.

I am intrigued by the box - is the 1940 date printed on it or is that a label stuck onto it?

It is a sticky back label stuck on the box
