    Question 45/70 barrel.

I have a Pedersoli long range creedmore rolling block in 45/70 and although iv owned it for years i never noticed untill recently that the barrel doesnt line up with the action. I often thought it looked a bit "odd" when looking through the std peep hole sights but just never noticed. Its as though the barrel has unscrewed a bit but my local dealer who has the proper gear has tried to tighten it and he asures me its tight, very tight. Under the for end is an alignment mark which isnt quite lined up but dont know if it was like it from new or has unscrewed slightly with use.
Quite like the idea of having it rebarreled to say 45/90 but dont know where it could be done in the UK. Any Ideas??? Tim

    Hi Tim,
IIRC, barrel mis-alignment with Pedersoli Sharps have been reported in the past. As you say, if your gunsmith has checked it out and cannot do any further work, you may wish to report it to Viking Arms, who I think are the distributors of Pedersoli in the UK.

Further, if you wish to rechamber the barrel, there are several gunsmiths who may do the work as it only involves the correct reamer. Norman Clarke do conversions from 45-70 to 45-90 and above. So, you might have a word with them? However, if you wish to rebarrel the rifle with a new tube, then there is no one better than Arthur Smith in Colchester; he is the last of the old type barrel makers and specialises in vintage type firearms. The only down side is that you need to wait a long time.

    All the best

Hi Krish, thanks for the imfo. Have been up to Leeds today so called in at the armoury and a dealers in Leeds and all recon its a fault from new but due to the rifles age and value its not worth the hassle/expence of trying to sort it.
I bought some different front sight inserts and refitted the buckhorn rear site and things are looking up. Sight picture is now good as both are mounted on the barrel so will see how it shoots when i get chance. Tim
