good calibre especially on paper targets...shoot them up and turn the target round to use the other side

.177 is best pistol calibre as it gives slightly longer ranges,more pellets less weight,pellets are cheaper.

i was thinking if i got a hw40, it wouldn't be a long range tool and .22 might offer me more at the ranges i would be shooting at

of course i know less than a beginner and am relying on what i have learned online so why would you go .177?

have you seen the price of pellets??

with a pistol doing approx 2ft/lbs its not going to make much of a difference. and you dont need it to "hit harder" or anything like that as you cant use it for hunting.
so the only difference i can see is a .22 size hole over a .177 size hole and abut £3 extra on a tin of pellets

is that all the hw40 does: 2ft/lbs

are pellets universally more expensive in .22 than .177? if so then that is the only reason i needed to hear: .177 it is

i buy .177 gecos at less than 2.50 a tin, i cant find .22 pellets that cheap anywhere.

that is always a plus, not only do you save money on leed, but also on targets.

i shoot ft, so the lighter pellet traveling faster means it has a flatter trajectory so there is more margin for error when jugging distances.
i do have 1 .22 rifle which i got for the ubc comp, and because it was a bargain. plus if every there are any pesky meece around, they will be getting the good news

no, it will be just as accurate, however shooting a .22 requires more skill.

when shooting differnt ranges you either dial in the scope(rotating the turret to ajust the point of impact) to the range or hold over/under(using say mil dots each dot will represent a differnt range depending on how its set up so you aim using that dot).

if you think the target is at say 50 yards you dial in for 50yards or hold over and take the shot,
if the target is in fact at 47 yards a .177 may still hit it however a .22 may not due to the loopy-er trajectory.
so you need to be more accurate in your judgements with the .22, the gun itself will be just as accurate.
