Nice piece. What's the calibre? At my primary school in the 1970's, our maths teacher (the great Mr Metcalfe-Pike) used to start races on sports day with a blank-firing copy of a S&W 29. Those were the days. I wonder if that still happens in primary schools....

    Looks like 6mm.
If the chambers are less than 3/8" deep, 6mm, if over 3/8" , then its .22.

Yes, in the early days they cal it 6mm Flobert platz or 6 mm bosquette.
The .22 blanks for the modern blank fire pistols wil fit in the antique starter pistols. it,s the same size!

Nice looking piece John......It looks to have been heavily influenced design wise by both Webley and more especially British Bulldog designs....I have an old boxed Reck 8mm somewhere kicking about.....I know blank firers are banned for sale on here, but at least we can still talk about them!

    British Bulldog (real!)

    Webley R.I.C. (real!)

The Reck I have is very similar to this one....proper magazine and blow back slide action....It is a starting pistol, but I believe they used to also do a 8mm gas self defence version for the European (non U.K.) market.

Sorry not to gat straight back (had a very good friend drop in on us )

    Hi Forehand

It looks identical to the model C96, the bottom pic of your two pics, it even has a hole in the bottom of the pistol grip for a lanyard ring to be fixed

ED- it also is extremely close to the Webley R.I.C. in your pic, even to the little cutouts on the walnut grips

    Many thanks everyone

    John

PS, i don't recall what i paid for it (it could even have been a freebie ), would there be any value attached to it?

There's a problem with the pistol, it seems like the trigger spring has broken as now when the hammer is pulled back, the trigger has to be pushed forwards, it won't return on it's own i dunno if my two lads did this years ago as kids (they're around 29 and 31 years old now!!)
