    HW45 stock project

I was a little bored today so I decided to have a go at making a stock for my 45.

I had a bit of Zebrano wood left over from another build I did so set about hacking it into some sort of pistol stock.

Here it is in roughed out form...

The thing shoots totally different now with the stock on and is very accurate but it is consistently shooting 4 inches high even on the lowest sight setting.

I think I'm gonna need a pistol scope or something else to sight with but would like some opinions on what will go best on this sort of rig?

    Steve.

Very nice stock you've made there.

I noticed there was a factory stock for sale on here complete with taller front sight. That would account for your shot placement.

    Good luck, Phil

Ah cheers Phil, I just looked on the sales and saw what you mean by the fore sight extension bit.

I see another post in general airguns about aurora5000's HW45 with stock and he has put a small scope on his with seemingly good results.

As my eye to scope distance is around 30 cm when shouldered, i'm wondering if I need a short or long relief scope?

I appreciate the work that must have gone into making this, but if I am honest, I'd have to say I don't like it. Sorry dude...

The shape seems a bit odd to me, and that thin bit near the grip would not fill me with confidence, I'd always be thinking it'll break...

If it was me, I'd have had the stock come from the bottom of the grip and made a nice moulded hand grip shape and hefty cheekpiece.

I don't mean to knock you down, just saying what I see. Surely the thought must have crossed your mind that it seems a bit odd? I can only guess that the wood you began with was of such a shape that this was the only possible form it could take....?

I suppose it serves a function and if it does that well, who cares what it looks like?

    Steve,
Great looking stock, nice work and Zebrano is a real looker.

    Thanaton23, all criticism welcome

I like the stock as is but yes it is a little weird. I did it like this as the other way where the wood goes from the bottom of the grip along and up to the butt, would have meant having much more bulk at the butt end so as to accommodate the cheek rest which is about in the middle of the length.

I'm trying to reduce the weight where possible but at that point you mention near the grip there is a good 15mm thickness of wood each side. It shouldn't break unless I drop it!

    Steve

    Steve,
That's a very interesting project, your tests explain the foresight extension supplied with the standard HW45 stock,
    Nice Job!

    My homemade stock

Hi I have just finished this stock for my 45,It has improved the accuracy quite a lot as its much more stable now.The butt is adjustable for height and made from ally drilled to lose abit of weight. The pistol is normally fitted with a Nikko Sterling 1.5x20 scope will post a pic when its be refitted.

A very different stock to mine there mate, you went down the metal route I see

I am looking forward to trying this out at the range to see what sort of accuracy can be achieved with a stock?

    Wood stock

Hi Dunno if you are interested in my latest stock just finished today, almost a copy of the original Weihrauch one but with mounting plates on both side of the grip unlike the single one ,much more stable,The stocks made from Oak with a coating of boiled liseed oil and is finished of with an alloy butt pad.
Much better than the Alloy one i made earier i think.
Pistol has been fitted with a torch as going ratting in some barns later this week.
