    45-70 Obsolete caliber??

    Hi,

    I have a remington lee rifle,before i place it here for sale i wil know if this in the U.K a obsolete caliber is?

    I see in that list also the 9.4 dutch caliber.
    I sold a couple of months 2 dutch revolvers to a U.K citizen and they are free in the U.K

    The 45-70 Goverment cartridge is also present in the list that means they are free without license for sale in the U.K ?

    45-70 is most certainly not classed as an obsolete calibre and is on ticket in the UK.

    45/70 is not on the obsolete list although I have seen them for sale off ticket.
    fwiw ... I have a Remington Lee in .43 which is off ticket

    Yes, i have in the past also seen trapdoors 45-70 for sale in the U.K

    .45-70 doesn't appear on that list.

    It's still used in the US, for deer hunting and by marksmen in old-timey events.

    that rifle in the pic has a very short barrel is that the original config ie was this rifle used for line throwing??

    In the case of old cartridges such as the 45-70, obsolete usually means that factory ammunition is no longer available, most definately "NOT" the case regarding the 45-70 Gov.

    I dont know, it,s not a smoothbore!
    I think they have shorted the barrel.

    I have a Remington roling block in 45-70 and thats one is a smoothbore made for linetrowing.

    Hi Jim,

    I have shoot this cartridge last year in Tulsa O.K in a derringer,not funny but a good stopper with a 350 grain Hp.

    It is still used in the UK for deer and pig and very effective it is and may continue to be.
