Think the early models were blued with brown grips, later models a sort black crackle paint finish and black grips, something like that anyway...
Anyone know how to date these. I have searched on here but cant find much on dates.
Have acquired 120283 which seems to be a late model.
Thanks.

I bought No.116000 new in 1973. There were about 126000 made so you might be able to work it out from that? Probably yours is 1974 I would guess.
Thanks chaps.
126000 made must make mine pretty late at 120283. Blue Book says they were made up to 1983. What year it actually is depends on how many were made each year I guess.
This one certainly looks more modern than my 60s one.
Unmarked and hardly shot, in a case lovingly made to fit it and bits and pieces, by one previous owner.
Nice to be in the right place at the right time!

I have a cased one 042192, Bought on 12/4/1960.
I have not long ago aquired one with the brown grips and blued finish along with barrel weight, the only thing missing is a screw that goes through the top of the grip from one side to another any ideas where I can get spares.
I believe this one to be an early one as the price tag is still on the box

Amazing article Trev. Thanks
I just send a mail to Walther in Germany and ask.
My Walther has number 022596 and was made in 1957
Andy
FYI, serial number 021540 was manufactured in 1957, I have confirmation from Walther dated June 1980 (god I've been collecting for a long time!).
Found a few rear sight spares as well if anyone is desperate.
