Finally got a real Umarex M29

After an extended wait, I got my hands on the Umarex Smith and Wesson Model 29.

    Unboxing and comparison video here

    Merry Christmas everyone

    Great video, thanks Nick.

You may have seen already that the 6" pellet model only has 2.5" of rifled barrel, the rest is some 6mm bore aluminium airsoft tube. Wingun who manufacture these in Taiwan, have pulled the same trick on the 6" Dan Wesson 715 pellet revolver.

I have fitted a full length rifled barrel to mine and left material on the barrel offcut I used to increase the weight. I also packed the grips with plasticine and old pellets, partly to deaden the hollowness of the plastic, but also add more weight. Unfortunately I have overdone it and will need to turn more metal off the barrel!

It was great to see a side by side comparison with your real M29, especially the unloaded weight of 1125g. Looking forward to your next video.
Too many guns, or not enough time?

Cheeky buggers! I'll have a look in a bit. Oh, and any details you can share of the rebarrelling would be great. I have a .22 barrel blank here and feel a project coming on......

I think I am safe to assume that you have a lathe, or access to one! If you keep it at 0.177, it is just a matter of of copying the two plain external diameters at each end, the overall length, and enough remaining external diameter to fit inside the shroud. The two end diameters are quite critical, the muzzle one to be a close clearance sliding fit in the shroud, the breech one needs to be a close fit into the front of the forcing-cone so that it doesn't rattle.
I decided to ditch the alloy forcing cone and incorporate the shape into the breech end of the barrel, the harder steel seems to slide into the cylinder detents more smoothly.
This might be an easier way to convert to 0.22, it would also leave the original cone intact if you want to switch back to 0.177.

Mr tinbum, you seem to be in the rare position of having the Umarex and real versions of the Model 29, do you think that it would be possible for someone with a modicum of skill to get the real wood grips to fit the replica frame?

Mind like a thing.... Got holes in it?

Orignal looks too short for the Umarex, that is a dimension I hadn't checked before.

Edit, pics don't work here. I can mail it to you if you want?

Always looking for any cheap, interesting, knackered "project" guns. Thanks, JB.
