Visually Impaired Target Shooting

Can anyone help me? I’m new to the Airgun world and I’m visually impaired. I’m looking for up to date information on competitive target shooting for visually impaired people.

The NSRA hold competitions for the visually impaired at their Aldersley centre near Wolverhampton racecourse. Presumably they do the same at Bisley. The NSRA do a series of specialist targets for the visually impaired. Contacting NSRA Aldersley is probably the best place to contact.

your first port of call is the British Blind Sport website. There you will find answers to most of your questions. The nearest clubs to Saltash that have VI shooting facilities are St Austell and Okehampton. The rifles used are normal 10 metre target rifles and all shooting is from the standing position. There are 2 categories, supported and unsupported. In the supported category you use a spring stand to support the rifle vertically, the unsupported event is exactly like the sighted version.

As for competitions, there is a summer and winter individual postal league for both categories and an annual championship at Aldersley in February. There is also another meeting at Aberdeen in August each year.

Depending on the level and nature of your visual capacity you might find that you are able to shoot benchrest rifle using a very strong scope. If you have some degree of useable vision this could be worth investigating.

Many thanks for the excellent information. Thanks Rutty for your info, that’s a great help and just what I needed. Also SteveR thanks for the info on the okehampton small bore club I will take a look. Powderfinger and jonyb I will contact NSRA too.
