    Hi
I currently us triple 7 because I do not have the paper work for gunpowder.

What certificates do you need to buy and keep black powder?

First you need to get a box sorted out - the specifications for them are here - http://www.opsi.gov.uk/si/si2005/20051082.htm. You can either build one, or buy one - the boxes from these people http://www.black-powder.co.uk/woodenbox.pdf are very reasonable.

Then you need to apply to the police for an explosives certificate - free of charge They will check that you have appropriate firearms on your FAC or SGC, and then probably come out to inspect your security and storage arrangements.

When you get the explosives cert sent to you, you can then apply for an 'RCA' document - a 'Recipient Competent authority transfer document' - which allows you to move the stuff from the shop to your home, and then to the shooting club. You get these by writing to the HSE and asking for one - at

    Health and Safety Executive
    Explosives Policy
    Rose Court
    2, Southwark Bridge
    London
    SE1 9HS

Also free of charge. No forms for the last one, just write and ask for an RCA document, telling them that you have been issued with explosives cert number....

    All quite easy, really.

as Troddenmasses said - it's all a fairly starighforward procedure

The last time I renewed my RCA - I faxed them my 'letter' and copy of my Explosives Cert & FAC & the RCA docoment came in the post the next day

Only weird thing is they run a max of 3 years - so you end up with 2 renewals for your BP paperwork across the life of your FAC - the second renewal ending on your FACs renewal date

    Cheers

The paperwork is not as hard as people would have you believe. Also once
you have a certificate you can use whatever type of powder is cheapest at the time assuming your gun/s are ok with subs. The biggest headache is getting a box at senseable money, but if you make your own your quids in. I was lucky my neighbour charged me £20 to supply the timber and make it.
    Black powder is addictive

Can anyone post the address of the firm that supplies the boxes from the back pages of the MLAGB back pages? They are 1/2 the price of Kranks.

You would need to check with your local firearms officer before using that plan.
When I built mine about 15 years ago I had to change the steel furniture I had used for brass before he would pass it.
